What an exciting journey.
Once I had all the information from the client and I completed drawing the floor plan for each room I’m moving to the next step.
While gathering the information from the client (her likes, dislikes etc.) and drawing the floor plans your brain already starts imagining and you start to get and idea of the look your going for. I started playing with color combinations, searching for photos of rooms with those colors to get the feel and decide the direction I’ll follow. Having the floor plan ready I could now know exactly what furniture I need, how big and where they’ll go.
Till now it was more of the “boring” stage of work, now the fun begins. Now it’s time to shop; look online and go to physical stores, take pictures and try to build a full picture of the room. I started creating the mood board/ design presentation. You work through each combination till you find the one that works the best with the client’s feedback, the room floor plan, the room functionality etc. It was so exciting, my creativity and energy was at the top. This process can take a while, your presentation should include the floor plan, the colors, furniture along with decor and the budget. Only once I had everything ready I could meet with the client, present my design and get their approval.
The biggest obstacle here is to keep yourself within the client’s budget, to find the furniture and decor that will create the best with the requirements and still be in budget.
When reviewing the presentation with the client you should always make it clear that this is not the final design and things can change depending on availability , budget and timeline. This is to give the client the main idea how the room will look like and if they agree/ approval we are good to go.
