We all have a dream, for example, to find and buy our dream home.
Dreams are good, we have dreams on how our spouse will look like, the car we want, career we will have etc. For many of us those dreams don’t necessarily come true. We learn to lower our expectations, or just be happy with what we have.
We grow up and find out that dreams are sometimes fantasies that stay in our childhood, we make the necessary adjustments to bring those dreams to the real world, we find out the world is not black and white, there are many shades we can work with to keep ourselves happy and satisfied.
Sometimes you can find an apartment, house that is not exactly what you dreamed of BUT it can become that. Don’t give up, with just a little creativity, patience and digging you can turn your apartment/ house to your dream home.
Sometimes just minor changes can make a huge difference; fresh paint on walls or cabinets, DIY backsplash or accent wall, replacing carpet, light fixtures. There are so many ways.
You don’t have to be a professional to do a job, there are so many tutorial videos on you tube that will show you how to for every single thing.
So what do I mean exactly… lets get practical. lets take the kitchen as our first example, a lot of the times its THE room that draws the most attention.
What can we do when budget is low;
1. Repainting/ resurfacing kitchen cabinet doors or replacing the doors themselves completely.
2. Changing handles.
3. Using sticky faux backsplash tiles and put on top of the current one (or if you have the time and money, replace them completely).
4. Replace stove/ sink/ faucet.
5. Changing light fixtures.
6. Replacing the floors.
7. Replacing windows- Instead of replacing the entire window you can just replace the glass, it will lower the cost dramatically. Can make a huge difference by changing the glass style.
8. Replacing appliances- that can get very expensive, but don’t be afraid going to outlets or buying on Facebook market, people return things or list them after one time use or even in box as they miscalculated their space or don’t like how it looks in real life.
9. Change the countertop, you will defiantly need professional help with that but you can find warehouse or granite/ marble yard in your area that sells to the public as well, by that you remove the middle man and save some money.
I agree, it sounds a lot and scary BUT if you make a plan and do it step by step, researching how to, you can do anything and you will even appreciate it more when done, because YOU did it. yes, it will take longer but if you want to save thousands of dollars that’s the way to go.
there are so many more upgrades you can do… its end less, but this is a good start for your realistic dream home. By the way… don’t get despair if you do mistakes… you’re the only one who will know about them and notice them.
